Delam, Worth adding patch?

Hi,

Ive got a 4 x 6" delam on my board, I think its quite new.

Im going to try the hole/resin method but was advised from a mate to add a patch after the resin has hardened and been sanded back,

Does anyone use this method? Is the end finish usually satisfactory?

Cheers

I just posted something similar and it was suggested that I patch over the filled holes.  I'll try it tonight and let you know how it goes.

youll want to make sure that you get the resin to spread out through the whole delam section so puting a hole in the middle of the delam is not always the best way to go, i would make a hole at the begining of the delam so you could tilt the board and the resin will flow through the delam then take some whieghts and whiegh it back down, once cured then yes i would put at least one 6 oz patch over it or two 4oz patches, i would also suggest that instead of makeing a hole i would just make a 4 inch cut through the glass so you can be sure to get the resin to spread out

good luck

I want to make sure it doesnt delam again so I was thinking of making a few holes throughout the bubble.

What sort of drill sizes do you use ? Is it worth drilling slightly into the blank to key it as well?

A poin tto consider when I make my first board is that I suppose different blanks perform differently when taking in water, Whats everyones experiences with different makes of blank?

personaly i dont ever drill holes in the board to fix a delam, i will take a dremal tool with a cutting wheel on it and depending on how warpt the glass is i will iether cut the delam out half way around the  delam and put resin in and sandwich back down and patch(make sure when you cut it out that you go about half an inch past the delam to make sure you get it all) or if the glass is warpt too much then ill cut the whole thing out and reglass

any pu blanks are fairly good at not sucking up too much water and any epoxy blank will suck up a ton of water and take alot longer to dry out

“epoxy blank”

No such thing. Sorry guys, one of my pet peeves. Like the mythical " I want a fiberglass surfboard NOT a “Epoxy” board".

sorry ace, my bad
