This is the foam used for meat trays, fast food containers and egg crates. It seems pretty sturdy and lightweight. Does anyone know what kind of foam it is? Has anyone tried it?
yep …
its extruded polystyrene , and ive already tried to build boards from it …
mid nineties found a packaging plant that made meat trays , i managed to get a roll of the stuff ,the thickness you see it in meat trays is how thick it is ,it gets squeezed out of a giant machine , cut into sections ,then stamped into meat trays , straight after it comes out of the extrusion machine , i managed to get hold of some before it was pressed …
it only comes 450mm wide about 6mm thick , density is around 30 kg per m3 …
what i ended up doing with it was eps core 8oz glass ,skin of meat tray foam , then another 8oz , on the outside ,its to soft to use as a skin core and doesnt come large enough to use for anything else…made 2 boards from it ,both failed …the stuff has no potential…
