Derek Hynd finless at Chunky J Bay.

That was a great clip. Very inspirational.

I don't think I'd like to spin everytime I came off the top of the wave? Is that's the only way to harness the speed and redirection?  It's very functional, but  I think I might get sick and puke with all that spinning going on.  Are there any clips of him coming off the top and not sliding out or spinning around

Nice niche board.....even nicer waves

The question is who’s making the boards he’s riding?

Curious to see the different variations as the designs have evolved to what he’s riding now.

I noticed the un-mistakable Bushrat (Jed Done) colours on the bottom of one board but that’s not the board he’s riding in the J Bay photos on Roy Harley’s site.

Great photos too.

The boards in pics 14 and 15 on the linked page of Roy Harley’s site are made by Des Sawyer, a long time J-Bay shaper.

Thanks for that bit of info tim b.  I also have been wondering who has been shaping some of these boards DH has been riding as of late.

Does Des Sawyer have any contact info?

thanks,

amazing.  I want to do that.

That is bloody amazing. Not everyone's cup of tea, but it makes the old bottom turn/lip bash look a little stale haha

I have a mate taking some footage of some finless and almost finless surfing tomorrow, will try to post here.....people keep saying they'd wanna stretch and it would hurt their knees, I been at it for a while now and no knees probs but I did have a few neck strains in the beginning, but the fun factor is thru the roof, well worth it...I'm actually designing one of my boards as a traveller here in Australia, should start in about 1 month, any Aussies keen, let me know please thru this site or mine...thanks,

Yep.  I want to see committed BTs and TTs too though.  !

Great video, definitely both eye candy and ample food for thought.

Sometimes I think Kelly Slater is the most naturally-talented surfer to have ever lived, and sometimes I think Derek Hynd owns that title.

Howzit cuttlefish, Has to be some of the best free surfing I have ever seen and derek really has the place wired. Aloha,Kokua

this is the footage I mentioned. By no means am I trying to say it is great or I am good at this, it is just relevant to the topic and I think showing real footage is better than just words, footage shows what I am doing and then people can like it or hate it, all I know is this is the most fun I have ever had surfing and I am hooked on it and will continue to try and do new stuff and improve......

haha!  You must have a great sense of balance!   I feel dizzy now!  Looks like fun - but I like my surfboard to go the direction I point it LOL.  (I'm not talented enough to do that).

haha...nah, dont get too dizzy...backhand is a challenge though but getting better all the time.....
