Aloha, Can anyone recomend any internet web resources for Von Dutch inspired pinstriping designs as well as tribal island waterman tattoo designs. Before my 9’10 traditional style pintail noserider (volan glass & glass on fin, resin tint) goes off to the glasser, I want to get some design elements together to incorporate into the board in some subtle way. One idea that I’m thinking of is a Von Dutch style pinstripe design mixed with elements of a tribal tattoo comprised of strands of kelp and sea grass - this would be layed down parallel along the stringer (perhaps just near the tail - maybe near the nose). I have these images in my mind but have trouble getting it down a paper. Anyone know a source to have these sorts of designs printed on rice paper so I can have my glasser do the laminate work? Many mahalos - keep surfing!
It sounds like you have a good idea of what you want but don’t have the vision yet in your head. Check out this guys site, Rietveld (started Maui & Sons I heard). I don’t know him personally but his artwork is super good, and is one of my favorites. Check out the gallery, it might give you some ideas. Regardless it sounds like you or someone else is going to have to draw what you want, then transfer it to rice paper. It sounds like a hassle but it would be an original. There are threads in the archives on printing to rice paper on your home computer. http://www.rietveldusa.com/home.html

Aloha, I am currently printing designs on rice paper using digital technology & UV blocking ( Non Fade) pigmented inks. I have been doing this for the past two years & thru much experimentation, trial & error. I am now starting to market surfboard graphics to other board builders & glassers. I don’t have exactly what you are looking for but I can produce any designs that you might want. Check out dreamflagproductions.com on yahoo & raymosslongboards.com Ray>>> Can anyone recomend any internet web resources for Von Dutch inspired > pinstriping designs as well as tribal island waterman tattoo designs.>>> Before my 9’10 traditional style pintail noserider (volan glass & > glass on fin, resin tint) goes off to the glasser, I want to get some > design elements together to incorporate into the board in some subtle way.>>> One idea that I’m thinking of is a Von Dutch style pinstripe design mixed > with elements of a tribal tattoo comprised of strands of kelp and sea > grass - this would be layed down parallel along the stringer (perhaps just > near the tail - maybe near the nose).
