I was surfing this weekend when I broke a fin(that is the fcs plugs broke). I went back in an borrowed a Bic 7’3" ‘minimal’(which is on thing it’s not, it’s more like a funboard/hybrid thing). Not a bad board, it turns, glides and paddles ok. But there was absolutly no drive out of turns, no speed gained by pumping it. It was like it only had one gear, one speed and that was it. What design elements create drive out of turns? I thought the thruster fins where the key, but in this case it didn’t work at all. Even my single fin longbord gives more response to pumping. So what’s going on? Poorly foiled fins? Too flat rocker? Too small fins? Too flexible fins? Poor placement of fins? regards, Håvard
Havard There are a few reasons why… #1 it’s a “BIC”… rental gear!!! #2 they suck talk about pool toys #3 that 7’3 has no fin setup… they are set in off the rail like 2" and point forward no toe. #4 weight is OOOOoooo so heavy “DEAD” feel #5 It’s a “BIC” Pop Out!!! at least Surftech surf… You want drive flater rocker with less curve in the outline between the wide point and your hip or fin area. point the fins with less toe. Most important thing to remember never ride a pop out they have no soul and you’ll feel it… You did didn’t you… Rob>>> I was surfing this weekend when I broke a fin(that is the fcs plugs > broke). Talk about soul… Bdw. the fins have toe, but not all that much. regards, Håvard
Håvard, I’m thinking it was a lack of rocker or poor rocker placement that deadened the thing. All of the characteristics you mentioned might add up to a lifeless ride but I’ll bet rocker is the root… Newbs
Thanks Newbs. I’m trying to figure this out so I don’t end up with similar characteristics in my boards. I would be very dissapointed if I ended up with something like that. regards, Håvard
