I would LOVE to be on the beach with my camera , watching Occy , Slater , and Parko take apart J-bay . Tom Curren and Derek Hynd would complete the picture , for me.
pure inspiration for me , watching those guys surf … I don’t care what ANYONE says , I never tire of watching those five.
Anyway …are you going to stay there for a while Roger ? The comp stars on monday , and runs for how long …is it two weeks ??

Well, the full moon is overhead and the stars have shown themselves...most of em anyhow, but the bay is calm.
First day of waiting with nada…and more of the same for tomorrow, so they say. Maybe Friday, but winds could be a problem.
Rumour has it that they might get a bunch of 9-0 surftechs for the competitors to try and keep em off the streets and outta the bars until mother nature aligns.

No contest today(2nd day Thursday)) Wrong winds and small still! Next 4 days look better with short period wind swell for Fri and Sat and possible ground swell Sun and Mon.

So close.....yet so far! No comp today.....expression session in a few overhead waves and the grommets battleing for something or another. Getting a few waves at Tubes and yes Jay...I relented and surfed the Point and quickly remembered why I had been givin' it a pass!! Beastly Eastly winds predicted for tomorrow with some talk of a swell mid week....They better say their prayers or they could end up running out of time.
BTW…does anyone know what a Billabong is? I am not sure, but I think I’d rather have a Fosters!

and go Danny Wills !! …highest heat score so far , sticking it to Andy ! woohooooooo !! [Andy got the first 10 point ride , and still got beaten …that shows the level these guys surf at , I think ?!..
I’d love to see Danny Wills , or taylor knox , or phil mcdonald or maybe pancho or occy take it out this year …
When the tide dropped and the southwest winds kicked up it did get really good yesterday. Andy Irons did get an unbelievable tube ride to score the 10. Actually Slater never made it to his heat....so he will be in the first heat in the next round. He was here this AM...warming up for the contest early...but again they decided to wait for better waves. He was surfing strongly and got a tube ride that brought cheers from those that braved the early AM chill. I think this South African kid, Sean Holmes, could prove to be a spoiler. He got a wave where he was barrelled 4 times...it was the heat that Slater would have been in. The waves were smaller today and the tide was too high early..but they may regret not running it today. It seemed adequate to me and the wind was not a problem as it might be tomorrow. Anyway, I did get a Supertube session at a good tide as the South Africans and Ozzies were busy watching the Tri Nations Rugby match. Embarassing outcome for the SA's.

the best thing is …when they get there act together , it’s quite feasible to be able to watch this contest , we are only 6 hours ahead of j-bay …so no midnight to dawn sessions needed , as it was with that AMAZING mexico contest !
