The logo says The Foil and underneath it says Hawaiian Inspired for Dewey Weber Surfboards. It has a variable wave set fin box…Seller is sure he has the fin and will find it for me…
It is 8-0 and as you can see…no tail rocker and radical domed deck
Just liked the looks of it…not sure what I will do with it…
The Phil Edwards is 9-10+ and needs some minor repairs but is generally solid. Quite sure what I will do with it…Paid $600 for the PE and $200 for the DW
Yea…42A…and with the cutaway fin…nice that neither this or the Foil were retrofitted for leashes. I expect the PE could become a favorite on the South Shore…
This favorite feels heavier evey morning I load it on the wreck for the drive into town. Last time I checked it was 35 lbs. Once launched though, the weight is my friend…
gotta weigh the PE…my guess is 25 Plus maybe a few…
I don’t know what to say bout the Foil…just a unique board that resonates with history. The only info, other than the sticker, is the number 5810 sort of indented into the foam on the deck at the tail. Would little Dewey have shaped it? My first board was a 9-0 DW pintail. Used to see him surfing 22nd st in Hermosa in the early 60’s…
Thanks for that Sammy… I have all the fin box parts .With any luck, I will have the fin in a day or two…seller was sure he had it somewhere…board had been on display in a restaurant here in Kailua…he had taken the fin out to fit the display. Is this fin box set up interchangeable with other Waveset System? An impressive, but maybe overly complicated system me thinks.
The system wasn’t really that complex. It was indeed a retrofit of the existing WAVESET box. As you can see in the exploded view, there was an insert which held a plate and the fin dropped into the plate and was held to it by two screws. They also provided material for channel caps that you could cut to suit. Most folks didn’t bother with the caps. It was a pretty ingenious method of making an adjustable fin system and it could be used with any existing box from them. It was one of the very first adjustable systems, if not the first. Anyway, if the adjustable setup is removed you can use any standard WAVESET fin.
Awesome finds Roger…The Phil is in such a condition where its not a beater, but no so cherry you would’nt want to ride it. I remember when both boards were state of the art. Phil had some really nice tint work and beautiful stringer combos. Weber had a shop on Ward Ave. run by Randy Rarick that gave Surfline a run for their money. They must have sold a lot of boards when he had Nat Young riding his SKI model along with the Strato and others. I’m not sure who shaped that particular board, but am quite sure Harold Iggy was still head shaper during that era. Hope to see you at the beach soon.
Got a lot of waves this AM…very different than my Simmons’ish ride. Gonna give it another go tomorrow…but I gotta say…it does not have the glide that the 10-4 does…I suspect it has a bit more tail rocker than I am used to…
