Dextra Paipo

The list below should be fairly accurate in capturing the Dextra-related advertisements in USA 1st and 2nd tier surfing magazine, 1960-1979. There are still a few issues that have not been reviewed, scanned or have some missing pages. Some of the entries below include more information than others.

Petersen’s Surfing Mag PSM 1964-Sep v01n07 p52 Dextra Doodl’ Board. Marketed primarily as a towing and wake surfing board; also a body surfing board.

Most of the Dextra adverts were black/white, partial page style. Their big splash advertisement in color appeared in International Surfing, Vol 2, No 4, p 73 (June 1966). The photograph/advert below is more of the “Mod” style of the 1960s, but not what I would call psychedelic. It could be that the Cocran Chase created a non-Dextra psychedelic advert in Surfer magazine. Or, I missed something rather significant (maybe one of the missing pages out there but I believe my Surfer Magazine coverage for paipo-related content is 100 percent now for 1960-1979.

I am sure he told me at some point, but have to ask again as I am really not sure about the name. somehow I think it was from mythology or an acronym of something.

that was more of the jr board (see picture of my brother and one of the first boards made for kids.

The belly boards were more of a stingray or mushroom type of shape with speckled (lumpy) jell coat, meant to eliminate the need for wax.

PS no team riders as boards haven’t been built in 35 or so years. Heck, all the boards we had were stolen out of garage or storage years ago.

I believe you are correct

Hello Dextra daughter,

It would be good to put a name to the Accurate Systems company. Also, is there a source of information with details about construction - e.g how they were made & who designed the shapes

Rod and I are interested in documenting who made these various boards and preserving details about them.

If you preferred - information can be entered here: http://mypaipoboards.org/builders/Paipo_Builders.shtml or you could PM the details.

Any assistance is appreciated,

Bob
