Dialing in a great glass job

I’ve just started shaping, and so far so good. But as I’m learning, I’m really appreciating great glass jobs I see out there. I’m really curious how one goes about getting those nice candy colors, with acid swirls and neato pin striping. I can do some basic stuff, but I REALLY want to learn how to make a board come to life with an outstanding glass job. I notice what I’m looking at that I really like are boards with a more “retro” glass job.

Anyone care to elaborate on some knowledge and or some really helpful resources that could be of some assistance? Would much appreciate it. Thanks!

There’s TONS on this topic in the Archives…Do an “Advanced Search”, in the “Archives” for “resin tint”, “acid splash”, “pinline”, etc…

Gloss resin.

The reason “Retro” boards catch your eye is because of the gloss resin. In order to get a good gloss everything else needs to be perfect. Cut laps even, surface sanded smooth. No sander marks. Narrow pin line. Extra time sanding the blank. Attention to detail. A good swirl can hide a lot…or… a bad swirl can cause a resin disaster.

Not everyone likes wild colors…

Take your time. Do your homework.

Don’t expect to glass like Moonlight or Austin on the first try.

You can do it !!!

Damn…Wish I could give advice like that…All true.

Hi Ten Over. Don’t fool yourself. You do great work.

Now back to that glass job…

Fill in your user profile, find some Swaylock’s people in your area and have a get together. Remember to have fun. Ask questions.

Talked to a few fellow Swaylock’s members this weekend, got offered a free EPS blank. Gotta love it here!

Thanks for the advice. I had dome a couple searches of the archives before posting as well. Most of the information I’ve found is pretty general. I’m a detail person and I guess am looking for a good tutorial or what not. If anyone has a link to something they found useful that’d be cool. I’ve done a gloss coat, up to that point with resin tint deck, wrapped the rails and then clear on the bottom with a pin line. I’m just looking for some tricks with resin to dial it all in.

Also, I was told I cant use resin tints and do the swirls If I am working with epoxy, is this true?

Who told you that ?

You can use resin tints/pigments with epoxy. There is an epoxy swirl thread that is very good here:
