Diamond Tail Bonzer - Rocker help

So I’ve started on my fall / winter project:

6’7" Diamond Tail

22 9/16 W

15 1/4 N

15 5/8 T

2 5/8 Thick

4.5 N rocker

3" Tail Rocker

I’m trying to make a decent board for our local beach break that will work in waist

to slightly overhead conditions. Also, works been busy so I need something that

will paddle easier than my 6’8" Shortboard. FWIW I’m 6’3" 175lb. I guess I’m asking

if you think I have too much rocker or if it will work out ok.

Thanks!

I attached a file for the image of the board.

I think your nose is way too wide. In order to balance it, you would need to stand way forward, so it will be hard to turn. If you are talking about a quick barrel beach break, a little more nose rocker might help. A little less tail too. At 175 pounds, and 6’3, I’d go for 11 1/2" nose width, 20" midpoint about one inch back from midpoint, and a 15 inch tail. If you want smooth turns, a smooth outlined rounded pin. If you are more of a slasher, a bump in front of the front fins, and a squash tail will loosen it up. I’d start the concave at about 12 inches from the nose, and end it in front of the fins, at that point, I’d start about 1/4" V.

Lastly, contrary to what bonzer riders tell me, I’ve never seen one that turns! They all seem to go really fast in prettymuch a straight line.

I’m no bonzer expert, but I’d say the board will paddle ok, if that’s your major concern. It’s not too much rocker.

However, it seems to have a lot of continuous tail rocker compared to nose rocker, and seems wide in the nose. But hey… it’s not my board. If you like it, build it and surf it! I’m looking at it differently than you. That wide nose will paddle easier then a pulled nose.

But my comments on rocker would be, if you want to keep it at 3", lower the start of the tail rocker, then accelerate it toward the tail so it has a gentle “kick” in the end to tighten up the turning radius. Bonzer concaves maintain the rail rocker, so you won’t get any additional tail rocker in the rail like you would with vee. So… flatter in the mid section, curvier in the last foot or so would be my only suggestion.
