How's it going? Wanted to get some feed back for which tail would work better in small mushy weak surf. Can anybody elaborate on the performance theory for both.
Thanks for the help.

what kind of board? a small wave mush monster is more than just a tail.
5-10, concave with vee, 2-3/4 thick, medium rails, relatively low rocker.
I guess its more of your preference a diamond tail should lossen the board up a little more than a square tail, both are used for small wave mush. i personally like diamond tails on small wave shortboards, but prefer squares on alternative shapes such as simmons
diamond will shorten the rail line making for a tighter turning radius. chopped is byfar the fastest tail shape
I honestly don't think the tail shape (Diamond or Chopped) much matters in the conditions described by the original poster. Two reasons A: Its the indian....not the Arrow. B: I think width/surface area and bottom contours of the tail are the more important factors.
With that said, the last 4 boards I've built have been diamond tails.
i like chopped tails , this is my self shaped #1
Thanks for the feed back. my goal is to make the most of the surf down here. so im looking for ways to generated extra bits of speed and maneuverability. the chopped tail seems like there’s more planing surface which would translate into more speed? and also would dig into the water for sharper, tighter turns? But astevens earlier said that the diamond tail shortens the rail line making for a tighter turn?
I’m also trying to improve my knowledge of board design.
Thanks again.
Knowaloha, what conditions to you ride that board in, and how does it perform?
chopped squares release water fastest.
it was made for 1-3 foot beach break , sometimes mushy and somethimes steep.
so far so good , it is reallllllllly fast that is certain .
flat - single -double - spiral vee - flat , twinzer fin setup , single 4 top and bottom ( nice and flexy ) , eps epoxy .
i think for #2 I will continue the spiral vee off the tail block .
here is a rocker shot and fin set up
