what are the advantages/disadvantages of each on a longboard? i have a traditional board with a square tail, a more modern with a rounded pin and a hull with a really rounded tail they all ride very differently but then everything about those boards is different from weight to rails to rocker to concaves just wondering – also, i have never seen a diamond tail on a longboard until i saw one of joel tudors shapes – he is a good surfer but doesn’t strike me as a really innovative shaper – just wondering i guess

The tail thing looks a bit like this: Square tails have a good water release when you turn and are a bit more stable they also have some advantages for riding the nose. The idea behind the diamond is that you would have the same carasteristics the square tail has, but the rails wil be shorter and therefore the turning radius is shorter to. The pin or round pin should have a more flowing feeling it also would be better in bigger and hollower surf. My choice, pin, anywhere, anytime. Peter Rijk.
