I’ve listened to the forum rules and tried a search. I’m a newbie on this forum so I don’t want to get off on a bad start.
Ok, here’s my problem:
I have a 8’10" recently stripped blank (was a surfboard, but I need to do major foam repair to it)
I was going to do 7.5 Volan top and bottom with a second 6oz layer on the bottom and a 3/4 on top but now after totaling the costs for the project it might be out of my range pricewise.
What I was thinking of now was to make it into a soft top with an epoxy bottom. I am uncertain what material I should use for the top but I think Surftech uses EVA foam rubber. I am also uncertain what I should seal the top with but I’m leaning towards a double Epoxy/fiber layer just to keep the water out and add some support but since I’ll be gluing/bonding a soft layer on top I might even use a more rigid material that is also flexible and light (unsure of what though).
The only EVA foam rubber I can think of are in backpacking mats, anyone know any wholesalers or people that sell this stuff in bulk and which doesn’t come in Olive Green or Black?
Any help in this endeavor is greatly appreciated. I think this might end up being cheaper than the $212 I calculated for the first idea.
Make that ‘much pricier’ - epoxy is around 2-3 times the cost of plain resin, and that foam top will be around ( at $100 or so) something like 4-5 times what the cloth would be to do the same thing, 2 layers of cloth .
cheapest I’ve seen epoxy was for $81 for a complete surfboard.
so yeah, I agree.
I’ve seen surfboard resin at 1 gallon and catalyst for 1 and 5 gallons of resin, no less.
Is it possible to use nothing but Ding All Suncure resin for the entire glassing? I can’t seem to find the Suncure Laminating. So since their sanding resin is common I was wondering if I laid down all the layers wet (with the sanding resin) would it prevent delamination by being bonded throughout? or would the risk of a delam increase.
Hate to take this topic in a different direction but I truly intended to keep this unique.
