I just got a quad and I was wondering what fin setup I should get. All the same size fins all M5’s or All G1000’s or 2 M5’s and 2 small fins(where should I place fins). Another setup: 2 G1000’s and 2 small fins (shere should I place fins).
i think you already know what i’m going to say…
but first, what are the dims?
any photos?
glass-on or boxes?
twinzer or quad?
canard?
(ok, i’ll shut up now)

ive been using vector IIs on the fish and my freaky 8’2. . … .
Alright these are the demensions 6’1"x 19 1/2" x2 7/8". I surf jersey waves more summer than winter but some winter too. There FCS and it is a quad and here are some pics
first i would like to apologize…
i misread your handle and thought you were ‘retrosexual’…
we’ve been tossing around ideas on another post about a 5-4-3 fin experimental board of mine.
might want to check it out along with several quad/twinzer posts from others on this site.
good news is that i’m quite familiar with NJ waves… it’s where i first started surfing.
ultimately it’s a personal choice so there is no ‘right’ answer,
but from my experience i would suggest getting several fins to mess around on.
i like the twinzer fin combo with the little fins ahead of the bigger ones for the type of waves you’re likely to be riding,
but when the swells get bigger switching it out to a quad would help handle more size.
the quad combo i tried seems a bit large for jersey surf, so i would go with putting the large fins in front and slightly smaller fins in back for the bigger days. there are an endless set of combos to choose from, all with different riding qualities, and i have a blast trying them out. there’s nothing wrong with having extra fins to swap out, and there’s tons to learn from the experience. check out chipfish61 posts and you’ll see a guy who’s taking it to an extream.
hope this helps.
and which exit?
(i was up in the Bayhead/Pt.Pleasent area as a grom.)

I surf mostly at the margate and ventor pier
I’ve got a quad of similar dimensions, just a little wider. I put bigger fins (almost twin-fin size) and thruster sized fins trailing. Without a doubt, that board goes down as one of my best riding boards ever. IMHO, with that kind of tail width, large fin size (up to a point) isn’t an issue, it just gives it more drive.
nice board !
i’m with jarhead on preferring the twinzer setup out of the ones i’ve tried
that said , i am yet to surf my 5’8 with the four fabric inlay fibreglass G6 templates i made …
hope this helps ?
cheers
ben
Thanks alot I am going to try the twinzer setup either this weekend or next i’ll let you know how it goes
