I have a couple of friends that sit at a workbench all day, have for most of their lives, and keep a fully stocked junkfood kitchen in their shop. These dudes are like 275-300 (maybe+?) or so and not in very good shape but I would really like to get them in the water at least to ride some waist high mush or something not too demanding. What (if anything) could I shape for these guys to get em out there?
Grab a 10’3"Y triple stringer, lightly skin it, glass with 6 oz bottom and top, 6 oz deck patch, single 9 to 10 inch fin glassed on. You’ll get a 24-inch wide, 4 inch thick big guy stick that will hold their weight and paddle well. Use wide glass (30 inch may work but measure the girth at the wide point before you buy it) to get a good-sized rail wrap, these guys won’t be easy on boards.
Have/had two pals about 300 pounds each, both were at least competent, so I know the size needs. Besides, I’ve been up to 245 or so…
I think if you go back about three weeks in the recent archives you will find exstensive info on this exact subject. I will say this; start with either the Clark 10’6H or the velzy 11’3 blank. McDing
Rob, I’m one of the guys that ride big boards my short board is 10’6". If the guys are as big as you say they will need at least 11’ and like 4" thick, and 24" wide. Email me at bagman2881@yahoo.com. I will send you some picks of big boards, and some spec. on them.
