DISASTER build mistake

Fast n Final lightweight is still white. I just bought some because I’m painting the house. I get it at Lowes. Started using it when Greg Leohr recommended it.

To avoid air bubbles with low density EPS ( I used to use mostly 1.5lb) make sure you glass on falling temps. I would try to glass late afternoon/early evening. Or you could preheat the blank by leaving it inside a closed up car on a hot day. Then taking it out and glassing it as it cools.

this is the way, i do preheat the room to and when i start glassing i kill the heat so it’s dropping, i have not experienced big airbuble problems, many small ones tho

Legend thanks mate! I dont know epoxy well but looking to have a play with it sometime so trying to build up a but of knowledge prior. Bloody love the swaylocks community thabks again

Plain old Acrylic house paint. Interior Flat. Deep base colors have more chemicals, colorant etc which lend themselves to the possibility of issues. Stretch paints his EPS/Epoxy boards with water based paint in pastel. No problems. So is that board EPS/Epoxy? An unvented EPS/Epoxy board in a padded(insulated) board bag???

Illi—Fast n Final is to off color these days. And pancake batter is too thick. If you mix the Sherwin-Williams lightweight Spackle like resinhead uses and thin to no thicker than mayo or salad dressing, you can screen the board with a worn out piece of sanding screen. Easier to just fill the voids between beads that way. And it screens easily. The S&W spackle is a better white. I wouldn’t buy spackle without popping the lid first to check the color. A lot of the lightweight spackles have been fortified with Acrylic which is green or grey in color. Acrylic balls up when you are screening or sanding resulting in scratches in your finished blank. I agree with resinhead; paint them all. Even the white ones. Paint ‘em white. PS. Use a plastic squeegee to spread the spackle.

After Greg Loher posts i made many 2lb virgin Edro foam, easy to find here, stringer, lightweight spackle 1x6 under 6+4 or 6+6 over. Then i had to made big boards (paddel), stronger boards (kite, monster gun) so i went to light eps + sandwich skins. After many i know only use 1,25 to 1,5 eps sealed “deep” with epoxy spackle cover with mix of biax and taffeta. Light and strong. Cook blank before use and board after lam and deep sealing reduce out gassing problems. Good use of a scew vent is best way.

Not familiar with taffeta. Can this be dine without vacuuming??

Taffeta is plain wave, it’ standard weaving.
Only thick fiber on complex shape realy need vaccum bag lam.
