MVGs
I’ve had several boards with them
mostly glass-ons just on the rear fin
I feel it made a difference
had allot of talk with Mark Spindler about them
he made them in different flexes
I think it did what George Gall is doing now by slightly altering the position of the from fins to offset the impact of the pressure wave against the rear.
made things “smoother” not faster
but sometimes smoother becomes faster because there’s less interfernce from the rear.
Herb, where are you?
As I recall, Herb has a long history of ‘‘tuning up’’ surfboards with MVG’s.
They can be much smaller than folks realize, and still produce the positive effects of attached turbulent flow.
Bill
Got a few ?'s.
Where do you get them?
Are they stuck on with adhesive?
Do they come in different sizes?
Do they need to be in front of the rear fin?
Inquiring mind wants to know.
The opening post is totally Greg griffin style
Words like Vortex Generator spike my intrest…I have some Herb SuperChargers that someone left on my workbench…Want to try them Keith?
oneula most certainly and I mean NO disrespect to anyone else!
Fact is in flat ass speed, makos and marlin are some of the quickest and have different, perhaps more advanced gizmos.
Barry
they had a permament adhesive strip but you coule resin/glue them on
i think they work best with glass ons because you need to position them correctly
and once you stick them on you don;t want to take them off
i might be able to find a couple laying a round somewhere
PM me an address
I don’t have any glass-on thrusters these days
that Kauai green Terry Chung “fatgirl Hanalei Spear” he built for Alekai Kinimaka is now sitting on a display rack at a friend’s condo in princeville.
I left it as a gift last time I was there visiting
they break the water flow before it hits the back fin freeing it
George Gall told us what he does to get the same effect by ever so slightly offsetting the sidefins
Years back Herb did one called the “Crossfire” which used both Mark’s and his fins
That board was an inspiration for me to pursue getting these from Mark
Check the tuna… New golf driver, fighter jets, etc… Heck, flow studies of the bottom flow of creeks, rivers…
It is hard science. It works. There are, as Bill T. is on to, other ways to decrease flow seperation, and attendant stalling at high angles of attack, by setting up small vorticies…
By the way Keith, thanks for posting, I should let Mark know.
Since I’m editing I can’t go back, but I have some I’d be stoked to send off, whom ever asked - pm me.
This is the only part of a tuna that doesn’t fold flush, flat and completely drag less.
All this folds flat and flush…
barry, i have a set i can let go…Spindler and i were close when developing our own styles of drafting finlets.
Herb
So what is the proper (correct) positioning of those things?
I’ve only seen them used a couple times.
Judging by the green board above, it appears to be approx. 2" forward of rear fin.
Is this correct?
I’ve been into some singles lately.
Maybe time for a glass-on eh?
They all have been in a box for versitility.
Would like to try a set.
or glassons period…
they do work on multi-tinners ,but thats where i believe, in my own opinion…my superchargers are superior, thats on the outboard fins only.
and ya ,you got the dimentions right…i tried to get a hold of mark spindler ,but no response…i could very well start making the MVGs…the molds would be a cake.

Hey Barry, I have three sets of the “center fin” version, and a couple of supercharger’s (they go forward & outboard of rail fins) in both glass on and fcs-tab-single varieties…Stingray and I trade for stuff all the time and he had a few in his collection… If you are in the hood swing on by and I’ll share. Or PM your address and I’ll mail you something to try.
