Does anybody know what this is?

A buddy of mine found it in the desert. He is sure that it has been there since he was a kid (late 60’s/early 70’s).

It is about 6’ +/- and it has a slight concave near the front (unless that is a warp…hahaha). It is worn around the edges of the concave and the rails are flat on top and rounded on the bottom.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

a photo would help

Looks like an old surfboard to me…

If that’s solid timber, I’d say it’s a very old surfboard. Could be worth a bit.

i recognize it.........lost it off my racks some years back, where r u,i'll come pick it up!

you ride sand dunes with it. What desert???, Looks like wood on foam with that yellow chunk in the back.

otba,

It appears that you have uncovered a “Belly Board” from the 1920’s, or '30’s. Value could range from $1000 to $3000. Contact Dick Metz at the Surfers Heritage Museum in San Clemente for a serious evaluation.

HaHa - I’m going to try that one on him. I’ll let you know how it goes…

Sorry about the link to the photos - I tried to upload one and ran into a size limit issue. Thought I’d get back to it, but it took me a little longer than I thought.

Thanks for the info guys and thanks to jjr for reminding me who to ask.

I’ll let you know what it turns out to be and I’ll try to get some better pic’s and post them here - just in case your interested.

Joe

otba,

Go to your local book store and track down “SURF’S UP: Collecting the Longboard Era, by Mark Blackburn”, it will give you some insight into what you may have, Re: that board from the desert.
