The very first time I took out this new to me used board it got this crack about a foot back from the nose. I cant feel the crack with my finger or fingernail but it looks deep. Does it look like in can take on water or is it just a bad stress crack? I had a good session and decided I loved the board so I was pretty bummed to see the crack when I got out.
Its impossible to see from the pic I posted but its not a scratch on the surface of the glass. Its a visable deep crack thats completely smooth. It goes from one pin line all the way across to the other. I was pulling into chest high beach break closeout barrels and guess this is the price to pay. I’ll take it in to the local shaper thats known for good work with resin color and see if he can make it go away without looking too bad.
Hard to see, but if it goes across the stringer, usually perpendicular to, it's a stress fracture from late takeoffs and the nose slapping hard into the surface of the water.
The hotcoat is compromised. From the pic, hard to tell if the glass is stress fractured, but appears not. Gloss coat keeps the surface seemingly smooth, but it will require a full sand down job to the weave, then hot, sanding, and gloss coat, plus tons of elbow grease to blend in the new resin.
