Fooling around with retro twin outlines - did this one with a deep (7") faceted swallow. I think it looks kind of cool but will it work? Also did a fin profile, again purely for looks, although I did think a wide base would impart drive.
That does look cool. I bet some of the experts have tried something similar(Herb S.). Build it and see how it rides. I think just about anything hydrodynamic will surf based on some of my bad shapes and bizarre “inovations” I see that surf well. Mike
Nice. I’d build it. It’ll go great. The fins look a bit far from the rail. We always kept the trailing edge about 1.5" off the rail on this type model.
Just for fun I took your image and based on the 16" dimension of the tail, drew a scale off the nose for 12" then drew a line from the back of the fin forward. The distance off the nose appears to be more like 48". I could be way off and don’t want to dis your design or drawing. Can you clarify?
Shaped 5’6", 5’9", 6’2" and 6’8 wide tail twins, all using the same curves.
The tails measure 12.5 " tip to tip.
Ridden the yellow board(5’9") from 2’ to 6’ in Europe. It’s great for speed and carves but lacks slight in driving up the wave face if it’s steep, but put that down to eggy rails on the tail with no edge and single foiled fins. Best fun I’ve had surfing in a long time, got to shape yourself one.
Go to Mandalacustom shapes, on that website under the fish fest photos, there is a picture of a yellow and red fish, kinda a slotted tail thingy. Judging from your drawing, i think you’ll like it.
I was there that day and would have riden it, but it was too small or i’m too big, oh well.[
No you are right it was meant to be 12", I did that bit in Photoshop with the pen tool, I must have moved the layer the fin marks were on or something. Maybe 48" is better for those fins anyway - the early ones I’ve seen with wide based fins had no toe in. Will have to see what kind of fins I can get for it.

You need to measure the tail width 12" up from the end of the board, instead of the width from pin to pin.
Uh-oh, my mistake. I created this new scale based on the 68 inch length (5 x 12" + 8") of the board. Things did change a little. However it measures out, it looks like it’ll be a lot of fun!
