I’ve done enough gloss and polish now to be sick of it, so I’m considering trying Dolphin Skin. can you put this stuff on a sanded hotcoat or does it work better on sanded gloss? can anyone enlighten me on the use of it? pros and cons.
I have only used in on sanded hot coat. I don’t know what kind of finish you are looking for but the stuff works good. I put it on, let it sit for 3 to 5 mins (a thin coat, but not so thin that you can’t see the brownish color of the polish) out of direct sunlight and buffed it with a cheapo car buffer. It comes out with a semi gloss to it and does a good job of sealing the board. It has teflon in it and creates a shell (kind of). It is not the same as a gloss coat but it is close. The cons: It is kind of expensive (but less labor intensive that gloss) & don’t let the compound sit for more than 5 mins. It starts to harden and can be difficult to get back off the board. Other than that, I liked it. I don’t like to gloss and I don’t like the fumes of spraying clear coat. For me, it works good.
