I've been lucky enough to see them "surf" at my local. Saw a few pods the other day. A surf cannot get much better when you get to see dolphins playing around nearby.

 ur so damn lucky

We also get the occasional seal and penguin. Whales on a rare occasion. They are awesome to see!!

Back when I lived in Sydney, I was surfing at a spot that will remain nameless due to its capital-H Heavy local crew, when a pod of around 40 dolphins wheeled around the point chasing schools of baitfish. I caught the second wave of the next set that came through and shared it with at least five of them. One was so close in the face of the wave that I swear I saw it wink at me as it cruised along beside me.

It really snatched me away for a moment from the mundane reality of living in a metropolis, trying to snag waves in a crowd that was just as likely to break your nose and order you into the beach, as look at you. Along with the birth of my two children, it remains imprinted like a moment out of time in my memory. A keeper for sure.

3 months since I started surfing, I saw a pod of dolphins approaching. I paddled to out to where they where heading. They swam around me past me, under me. I could touch them if I wanted to, they where so close, but I was way to scared to move. They just came and came and came, for 30 minutes straight. There must’ve been 200 or more of them. When they finally passed I paddled back to the peak, caught a wave, and got my first barrel.

I’ve also recently been in a barrel with a seal riding the curl right next to my face. We get ton’s of seals, but that was just plain unique.

But the most amazing thing that ever happened to me, was when I was surfing a secret spot for the first time, a wave that is better than anything I’ve ever seen, a huge humpback swam past me and my friend, not 50 meters away. I could paddle to him if I wanted to…
