What’s up with people trying to surf doors? I just saw a video with some guy trying to ride one. He only got up for a second or two, but it was funny to watch. I also remeber reading a magazine article that mentioned Kelly Slater waxing up a door and paddling it out on a small day a Pipe. Is there some kind of door surfing ritual/myth floating around out there?
Some board I’ve tried probably handled worse than a door! I believe riding windows would be the next big thing: the’re more responsive since they’re narrower and shorter and most important you can check out fishes under you by watching throug it!
How would you glass a window?
How would you glass a window? When trying out this new direction in surfing “door surfing”, I’ll be careful to make sure it’s not a metal door !!!
When trying out this new direction in surfing “door surfing”, > I’ll be careful to make sure it’s not a metal door !!! …The door thing is not for me…I prefer ironing boards, and tree trunks.I have friends that like to ride sponges or rubber duckies,Herb.
Yes, I said ironing boards, like the ones the kids ride on Nickelodeon’s “ROCKET POWER”.Herb.
When trying out this new direction in surfing “door surfing”, > I’ll be careful to make sure it’s not a metal door !!! He R.I., go corner Mario Frade and ask him about the time he and Demi Rada were arguing about what rode better. I came upon the conversation, told them they were both full of bull, found a piece of plywood on the beach, nailed a cedar shingle on for a fin, took it out and rode it. Not just one wave, but for the session. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com
I once tried surfing on a '56 Buick door. It pearled never to be seen again.
There was a surfer/bodyboarder named Danny Kim. He was really talented at surfing (standing up) on a bodyboard. I heard a story about him surfing a garbage can lid at Sandy Beach on Oahu. I always wondered if the story was true or not. Danny was an unreal surfer and the wave at Sandy’s just might have enough power to allow something like that to be accomplished.

Jim,>>> Funny you brought it up. Mario told me that story about 10 years ago. I > will tell him that you verified the story. PS: Mario won’t be hard too find, he’s still @ that same spot. End of the wall, right before “Monahan’s”, dog and 3 wheeled bike.
Remember always to polish your knob before each door surfing session. It gives it a good feeling in the water. (door knob, Geeez)>>> What’s up with people trying to surf doors? Just picked up my new custom door-board; 7’ long, 29" wide and 1 1/4" thick. Peep-hole thru-the-door leash plug. Flex spring door-stopper fin. Single knob. I think this one is really gonna unlock my surfing. It will open the door to a new level of performance. Next time I’d like to try a long-door or fun-door.
As you all know, I rarely comment on Swaylock subjects (right) but this time I can’t resist. Check Drew Kampion’s “The Book of Waves” photo #XIX. Features a black guy totally slotted backside on a chewed up hunk of plywood - one of my all time favorite photos in surfing!

Features a black guy totally slotted backside on a chewed up > hunk of plywood - one of my all time favorite photos in surfing! the question arises:if you own a shop and sell door boards and they end up having a high turnover rate, would you be considered a “door-to-door” salesman??? p.s.: where’s the surf??

No surf here today, cold front bringing in 35-45 mph. winds, has blown in away. So I have taken the day to develop a new “Door” model. It’s called the Jim Morrison model.

Back in the very early sixties I used to get so amazed by the little local kids surfing standing at the Kuhio wall on real estate signs, cafeteria trays, etc. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com
