Drill through leash loop with no stringer?

Board Details

This is my first board and have learned so much from this site and everyone on here. I have one question that I can’t find the answer to though. I want to do a drill through leash loop to the center fin box, but I want to make sure that it will not be to weak without the stringer. I am installing the center fin box with a layer of 6 oz glass unerneath. Will I have to worry about the strength of this? I don’t want it to crack the box or break it free later and have to repair it. Thanks for the advice in advance…

I don't think so.

Thanks Thraklkill. It has never been specified, so I just assumed in most instances there was a stringer holding the center box in place.

First the leash must seperate the glass from the box on the bottom.

Second, the box must pull thru the foam along with the resin/coth

patch you set the box with.  Third, it must pull thru the deck glass.

Then you have failure of the thru leash loop.  Duh...........

You will snap the board before you pull out the box!!!    Go for it,

it will be hella strong.......LOL

I am not really worried about complete failure. I was more worried about it breaking the box free or pulling it into the foam (since it isn't anchored in a stringer). But it sounds like you guys are pretty sure it will be fine. Thanks for the advice.

Bo,

The easiest thing to do is drill an oversize hole from deck to the top of the box and fill it with glass fiber, resin and slow hardner. Once it has hardend you can drill a smaller hole through the center and through the center of the fin box. Put a couple of layers of 4 oz glass and cap over on the deck side and re-open the hole. This will actually increase strrength and never leak.

Thanks Fly.......I never thought about capping it. Makes sense.
