Ear plug recommendations

I have Doc’s plugs with the hole but they still seem to let water in. Any recommendations?

I think they’re made out of some kind of grayish colored silicon. The cut down on you hearing more than Docs though. Good Surfin’, Rich

I have Doc’s plugs with the hole but they still seem to let water in. Any > recommendations? I have been using ear plugs for twenty years and have tried everything available(I think), from Doc’s to expensive custom made jobs, putty, etc., and have found that they all allow some water to get in the ear. What I feel works best for me is using Doc’s("cause they are easy and inexpensive)and swabbing out my ears after a surf with a q-tip and alcohol-prefrrably 90% or stronger, as anything else ie diluted with too much water and won,t dry your ears out.I have 90% closure in one ear and 95% in the other.Of course the DR. wants to drill but I don’t,so I take care of the ol’ ears, and so far it’s worked. The Dr. said as long as I am only coming in once a year then no problem. However,if I start getting infections on a monthly basis then he will insist I have the operation.Anyway, good luck! P.S. A buddy of mine did his masters thesis on the dreadede ear problem and found out,as have others, thta once drilled, the growth tends to grow back 50% faster than the first time around, hence people who have had two or more surgeries.(no thanks!)As long as you aren’t suffering from constant infections nor experience any significant loss of hearing, and practice good ear maintenance, you should be good to go for quite some time.(as I said I have avoided surgery for twenty years!)

Vertigo and motion sickness could be related to an unusally large build-up of wax in the ear. You can purchase an ear wax removal kit in any pharmacy. Included is a non-toxic chemical you introduce into the ear. After the appropriate amount of time, you gently irrigate the ear with a bulb syringe full of warm water, that is also included in the kit. If this doesn’t work, then perhaps a trip to the doctor might get the desired results, i.e. clean your ears out real good. Many years ago I lived next door to a commercial salmon fisherman who made an annual trip to the doctors office for ear wax removal, just prior to the start of each salmon season. He swore he never got seasick as long as his ears were clean.
