as a fly tier i use a bobin…a device that holds thread with tension…i cut ten strands of fin rope and spunn them togeather with green thread or you could use glass thread and tied off…cut the fin rope a COUPLE inches from the thread and lam on…hold with tape…
Aha! Good idea, I’d bet there are similar setups for other stuff that’d work too, or maybe fake something up with a spring-type clothespin and a bit of wire? Similar in concept to the ‘serving mallets’ used by riggers for old-style boat rigging.
By the way, like that flying fish graphic…

What is the deal w/the “Dragon Fish” just up from the loop? Ha! Now get on the big counter top, buddy! Tayee-lor (Ha!) Mat soon?! Gotta come and see it in person.

the waves down here are crud taylor…bring your mat this weekend…beer and meat too for the barbee…heated washers may get thrown
tjd Is the rope under the fishing line wetted out? Last night I installed a glass loop on a board. Some where I picked up some yellow pigment on my fingers as I was working it. So now the loop has a yellow tint to it. I’m going to try it with different colors. The swell should be 4 to 5’ Sat. So I going to try Indian early. Gordon
the thread under the green is a piece of glass thread spunn around the rope i drop it in the bucket… let soak…than stick it on they really have alot of potential…and soo easy…i did find out that the strenth of glass string is meger…so its hard to get tight without breakin the glass string…ecola has been fun the jetty is where ive been lots of wildlife no people good waves…
Very nice, thanks.
If you’re interested, NOAA has a bunch of old, old illustrations like http://www.photolib.noaa.gov/historic/nmfs/figb0518.htm that are kinda neat too. But I have to say, I really like that little flying fish, the hand-colored type illustration - takes me back to when we’d look at pictures like that in the old encyclopedias and books The Old Man had, of things that swam in faraway seas.
best regards

I did a leash loop on my first hollow. My wife plaitted 3 thick strands of rovings together and tied off each end with cotton.
Came out very strong, considering it had to hold a 24lb board.
