Hopefully I’ll get this right…in response to a question on another thread, here is a photo of my most recent excursion into edginess. Full board photos awaiting Mike’s approval. This version is more like what Bob Duncan is doing at Wilderness and G. Greenough did on a couple of cluster finned boards for Charlie Coffee. The green line is the proposed fin location. I had wanted to put the transition just in front of the fin but when you are doing these you have to go with the flow, so to speak. One of Charlie’s boards has the transition about here too. Not sure its going to make that much difference anyway.
Will that edge, once glassed, be sanded right-agle sharp after the fins, and tucked under and getting softer forward? Looks really interesting for rail riding fast walls.
Hey Lee - That is great, looks alot like what I got, but I carried the chines farther back (too far??? Only time, and surf will tell - thank god for Qcell - I can try it over and over) My tail will hinge/flex @ the point where your chines/strakes end. I shaped my stakes @ 30o and soften the edge, and then, after glassing and hot coating, I formed the strakes out of glass bead @1/4" thick on out side edge. (All these specs came from Dale S. and his experiences w/his tri-plane hulls.)
Thanks for the support and input. I’ll let you know what I end up doing, and how it all works.
Ps. Did those drawings make any sense? Just wondering if it is worth it or not.
