El Ocho - A multi-fin experiment

The El Ocho is RAD, no doubt. A real eye catcher!

I do look forward to more performance reports on it.

I wondering about the dual fin set up Trailkill, ole’boy.

Has the notion of putting a little cant in them of about

2 ro 4 degrees occured to you? I’m thinking that reverse

cant would give a powerful shit toward directional stability

and a standard outward cant would allow for better momentary

change in diretion. I’m considering a board for myself with

a similar set-up with the possible use of helically foiled fins.

But for now the in-house shaper is flyin’ on his new fin-less creation

and lovin’ it.

Stay Stoked, Rich

You think correctly.      In 1971, when I was doing the PressLock removable tri-fins, I did some canted fins, and made some comparisons.        Single fin, no tri-fins= normal.     Single fin, w/tri-fins, no toe & no cant= stiffer, better hold.    Single fin, w/tri-fins, no toe &with cant toward rail= Stiffer than single fin only, but looser than tri-fins with no cant.     Better hold than single fin only.      Single fin, w/tri-fins, no toe & with cant toward the centerline, DRAMATIC increase in stiffness, and hold.     This with a tri-fin only 2 inches deep!      Conclusion…tri-fins canted toward the centerline, do not need to be very large to have a strong impact on hold, especially if rideing the highline.

Rich, good to hear you are well and back in the water.

all the best
