Electric Planers for the poor...

Looks great Petec.  Every professional and clean lines.

I have this planer.  When will these mods be made available?

JSS

We were going for the end of this month, but now maybe a couple of weeks more.  The optional new shoe will be done next week, and then some test drives by Terry Senate and Barry Snyder.  We will have two prototypes that will likely go to the east coast and HI.  There are some stock 1594’s on Craig’s list, ebay, etc.  for cheap.  The new ones are about $150 and come with a nice case and fence (which still works with these kits).  The great thing about this planer is that parts are easily available everywhere. Motors, housings, switches, the works.  But if something drastic ever happens to it, just remove the modifications and buy a whole new one.   Being able to switch out a planer for $150 is cheaper that a typical Skil restoration, and much cheaper than another modified Hitachi.  However,  the Hitachi P20S which the Clark modifications are based on is out of
production, all that’s left for the stock ones is whatever inventory
retailers may have.    The Bosch is of extremely high quality, and the motor is very tough.  It would take a lot abuse to kill it.  Our modification kits follow this durability; solid CNC machined parts, 1/2" thick internal aluminum frame supporting the rear handle, no welding or bonding used on the kit components,  bolt-on install - no epoxy or other gluing of anything.

Petec I think you have a winner with this modification kit.

Nice work Pete, looking forward to it.

That is some great engineering.

I just bought a 1594k and would definitely like the handle mod. Sign me up:)

Also for anyone in Hawaii, I was in the Honolulu Woodcraft the other day,and they have a stack of the 1594k on sale for $130.which is a pretty good price.  I was also able to find an extension hose in there for $20 to hook up to my shop vac.
