Epoxy Fins???

High All.

Just wondering.

Has anyone used epoxy resin for fin construction??

Is it any easier or more difficult to work with and what were the results.

Cheers

If you use a high modulus epoxy, you can get somewhat stiffer fins in the same layup schedule.

If you use a surfboard laminating epoxy, the fins come out virtually identical in stiffness and strength.

Foiling is not any different. Having done a whole bunch both ways, I don’t care either way. If I wanted to boost stiffness I would use a high modulus epoxy though…but I usually control that through fin thickness instead.

Thanks blakestah

I will give it a go and see what happens.

Hi there,

Maybe not quite what you are asking for, but I’ve made ply keels and glassed them with epoxy.

  • Wasn’t any easier or harder to work with than Polyester resin

  • Results were realy nice… I enjoy riding them

Thanks all

I am just asking because I am looking to start using epoxy resins.

I build my boards out of my garage and have been told that epoxy resin is virtually odourless

Should stop my wife complaining about the smell.

Now the dust is something I will have to work on.

Cheers
