I did my first epoxy lam this weekend w/ Loehr’s stuff. For a rookie, I really liked the stuff, especially the extended working time to work on smooth laps. For a speader I used a beer coaster, razor-bladed in half (eh, Herb? What do you think of that?). Like Greg says, the cloth really soaks up the resin and you just want to push it around or else it gets frothy. The coaster worked great and they are readily available and free where I hang out. To insure the coaster’s colors did not bleed I peeled the thin layer of artwork from each side. A thicker coaster works best. BTW, any tips on sanding this stuff? I’ve just have a 5" random orbital sander with a minimum @ 4000 rpms. Do I have to worry about over-heating. Cheers, Gary
Thanks for the kind words. On sanding always keep moving. The way to overheat is to stay in one spot to long. I still do this on fin boxes occasionally. I have to stop myself and move to one of the other boxes before I burn the crap out it. I think this is the real reason we shifted from single fins. Beer coaster? … OK… you didn’t have ESPN on the TV when you were laminating too…? Sounds like a new style work regimen.
