I have an epoxy & eps(#2) board in for repair that was surfed with an open ding. i opened up the hole and left the board in the rafters for a week to dry out. The glass has a really good bond to the eps. I took the board down last night and left t on the shaping stands and the eps is still very slightly wet when pressed with a tissue. However when checking the board this morning I noticed a couple of drops of water on the board within a foot of the ding. I checked the ceiling and it does not look like the water dropped down from above. I suspect microscopic pin holes, but I would like to check before I inform the owner.
Has anyone any ideas how to track down pin holes ? and is this a common problem ?
I place a small towel or wash rag over the hole and place my vac bag attachment and scrap vac bag over the entire area and seal it to the board using masking tape.Turn on the pump, listen to the board for leaks, other pin holes will hiss air.when you find one stick tape over it.continue doing this until all the pinholes are sealed off/marked.you will need to have a hole as far away from the vac attachment as possible and leave the pump on so air can circulate through the board.A space heater on low helps dry the air too.
Yeah the vac bag is the plan when I get it back from PaulUK. I’m not worried about getting the water out, what concerns me is that it will get back in !
