Epoxy problem

I installed some fcs fin plugs using epoxy resin. After I sanded them I noticed the resin was still a little tacky,  so I set the board aside. I just looked at it 3 days later and one set is bleeding a little. I was told to thoroughly mix the resin in advance so I mixed it for one minute. I’ve used this resin before with no problem though I did mix it longer the last time. Live and learn. So now what’s the best way to get this resin to go off completely ?

I would clean it out as best you can, and do over.

You missed your mix ratio.  I’ve done it too. Be more careful next time.

Greg - I used a 25 ml double tube of Devcon 30 min. epoxy - just squeezed it into the holes and mixed it there. The epoxy around the plugs is solid as I was able to sand the plugs flush to the deck with no problem. But it’s still tacky and, as I mentioned, for lack of better words, bleeding around the edge of the plugs. There’s no way I can get it to go off  ? Time, heat etc ? I just googled this and someone suggested wiping the surface with denatured alcohol. Might make the surface dry but I fear the bond between the eps and resin, and again the plug and resin will be soft. Not looking forward to drilling out these plugs, as if the eps walls are coated with soft epoxy already the bond will still be compromised with a new batch and plugs.

Take a brake  … turn bord upside down.  Wait 36 hours >>> turn over >>>> apply new properly prepaired E-Pox. Result will be an advantage not a failure.  Just took a bit longer than anticipated.  ;) PS. Always clean hands with white vinega when after you’ve been  messing around  with the epoxy resins. I always wear those big old yellow taxi dermo kitchen  gloves and clean them with the sour fruit of the vine just so i don’t have to dump them. I’m not doing 100% eco but I’m on my way.

When I mixed this resin I used the entire 25 ml. tube and mixed it longer than the instructions said to. I contacted the manufacturer and tech support said the problem was shelf life - no solution. So I’m gonna sand it down a bit and put another coat over it and hope it works out .

Maybe next time try mixing it in a pot and pouring it into the holes. Mixing it in the holes sounds like a bad idea to me.

Yeah, doesn’t sound like the right proceedure to me either but it is a creative idea.  The devcon is also a 1 to 1 which is fine for decoupage or house glue but a bit less than the quality needed for boards.
