which is more dent resistant and which is more crack resistant?..
which has more flex?..
which has better overall qualities, and what are they?..
trying to settle the facts on this one.

hi Scott !!
make one of each …and find out…
I have owned several of each (custom made… i watched them grow up) but I got into an argument with someone about this and am going to sit on the sidelines and watch the experts battle it out. I just want a final conclusion on this issue before I glass another board (got 2 ready and waiting)
…so …you must have SEEN the answer to your question already, then , Scott ?
Do you still have those boards ?
I’d be interested to see photos / hear what you discovered [pm me , if you don’t want this thread to turn into a massdebating exercise !]
ben
as far as the boards ive ever owned… 4 poly 7 epoxy… broken 2 polys… broken 1 epoxy… but i still took heat for suggesting that someone switch to epoxy construction. I mentioned that im my opinion/experience, epoxy was stronger (but took major flak for that) So now I want to get a professional to settle the score.
P.S. half of 1 poly is at the bottom of the ocean, the nose of the othe poly is its next door neighbor (other chunks tossed in dumpster) and the epoxy was humpty-dumptied back together and given to my friend (because it was a clean break).
broke 27 polys in 10 years , broke 4 epoxies in 14 years …
number 4 was about 6 weeks ago and it really hurt , i had almost forgotten the pain …
have got a data base of other interesting facts regarding snap ratios …
but no time …
regards
BERT
I’m no expert but in my experience with simple dings, poly tends to crack while epoxy will ding as well, it does not crack keeping most dings water tight. I’ve broken 3 poly boards in the last year. and have yet to break an epoxy although I’ve surfaced many times thinking “oh hell I broke another board” only to find everything is o.k. We’ll see what happens in November before we have good sandbars, and the closeout shorepound barrels have a had a shot at it.

hey bert good to have you back
a bit off topic
doing a few tests on room cure/heat cure
love to here about some of your findings.
some tech guys in racing boats have given me a good run down with a few
loose figures
Scott the question you asked is not really the right question
there are so many variables
anyone who knows how to use epoxy properly, knows its stronger.
i come from repairing boats .so i dont have to relearn like poly board makers.
alot of their techniques just dont apply here.
we just got to work out how to make it Lighter/stronger/flexier
using sandwhich/vac bag/postcures/core thickness,density/core materials etc etc etc…
so scott in my humble opinion
theres is /should be no argument any further.
it is highly possible to make a crap board both ways
If you study .you learn
when you think you know
you can have a stab and try a few things out
epoxy deffinately dosent make me shape any better
but its hell easy to work with…
and i can get it anywhere for cheap…
whatever floats ya butt.
