Just finished my first EPS/Epoxy Fish. 6’long x 21" wide x 3" thick. 5.25" inches of nose rocker and 1.5" inches of tail rocker. Slight V in the back 18 inches. I used the Aeromarine epoxy from Jgreer and 1 layer 6 oz bottom with 6 oz top with deck patch. I haven’t sanded yet but I plan on sealing with acrylic. Even unsanded it seems light and stiff, but the weave still shows through in places. Will the acrylic fill in scrathces from the sanding and cover the weave a bit? Also, I’m 6’3" about 200lbs. Just wondering what kind of performance I can expect for it. Thanks for looking.
That’s a lot of entry rocker for a fish. But if that’s what you want, you got it.
MIght feel a little bumpy in the chop. The stiffness is from the combination of keeping it so thick, and using 6oz. But for a bigger guy, I think it will be ok.
Acrylic will give it a nice shine, but if the cloth wasn’t saturated it will show no matter what you do on top.
The lamination went well and the glass seems to be fully saturated and bonded to the foam, but when I did the hot coat it looks like the weave still showed through. When you run your hand over it in spots it feels like the board has half a hot coat. Looking real closely at it I could tell the resin was in between all the fibers so it loks water tight just wondering if it will be less durable if the hot coat didn’t really stay in place before it set. I used slow hardener (200 minutes I think). And more of a poly glass schedule (lam, flip, lam, flip, hot coat, flip, hot coat). The more I read it looks like a cheater hot coat is the way to go for epoxy. The closer it gets to being done the antsier I get to ride it. Now if only we could get some waves…
I kinda want to use this as a Sways acronym, but I think NIOWCGSW is kinda too long and too hard to remember…
