Eric Arakawa talks about his path and passion for surfing and the craft of building surfboards that has led him to being one of the top shapers on the planet. By following his passion for surfing, he left school and took on a career that has allowed him to build surfboards for some of the worlds best surfers including the late Andy Irons.
Cool - thanks for sharing that! He does have a great perspective and a big heart. I ran into Eric when I moved to the north shore. I introduced myself and told him I was new to the scene and looking for a job - he pointed me in the right direction and called ahead at one of the shops that glassed his boards - I spent the next year sanding a lot of his boards! Those were fun times surfing and building boards! Thanks Eric!
It’s nice to see another video on someone involved in the surfing industry without all the hype and propagnada. I wish some surfing magazines would take a lesson or twelve from this video.
I don’t think you will come across anyone that will have anything negative to say about Eric. His life is based on a sound belief in God and the rest has fallen into place for him. Even from the beginning when he was doing his backyard Maranatha Surfboards, you could see his shapes worked. I’m stoked to see that he has transcended so many eras and is still at the forefront of surfboard design.
