I wanted to know if anyone could tell me some brief surf/scrap stories of the Siliado brothers and friends from Ewa Beach?   (Joe, Peyton, Skippy, Philip, etc)  from the 60s-70s.

Aloha,

Kufd

Joe was older than me, but was a good friend. He was a talented musician, played great guitar and had an unreal voice, but I don't remember if I ever saw him in the water. Peyton either. Maybe some of these other guys his age would know differently? Stayton Siliado was my age and we used to hang out. He used to surf Empty Lot with us. He bought one of my BKs from me. Joe and Stayton both gone, RIP.

Re-posting a photo of Flight; Kane Ka'imi, Joe Siliado, George Koholokula, and Tommy Fernandez in the back on base.

Mahalo plenty Ewabeachrd for sharing that picture.  Peyton moved to Kauai in the early 70s
and made a big life change.  Still surfed very hard with Kauai boys
Terry Chun, Titus Kinimaka, etc till mid 80s then stopped.  Concentrated
on his family and career till present.   Currently back into surfing
SUP!! I’ll post pics later next week when I get to Kauai

Any one remember Jerry Tubbs? He would have  graduated in 65. I know everyone remebers his sister Mina better know as Savage?  I would like to talk to Jerry.

a couple months ago I gave everyone the heads up on how good " Smood" has been surfing; maybe almost as good as the day he moved from Ewa to Maui; and now some SWEET fotos of da bro stylin at the Bay; must have been a contest cause I think he doesnʻt go there much; too much tension for his " ʻano malie" [mellow frame of mind]; so proof positive for the elemakule club, can still rip when senior citizen; keep jammin Smood!!!

Aloha no! Joe did surf in the 60’s. I first met Joe from Norman Nauka (my hanai brother). He bought Joe to our house at EL must of been around 63-64. Later him, George, and Kani would form their band. Prior to that they would have jam sessions . Joe later moved to Maui was an electrician with Puunene Sugar Mill. I would go over his house and we would share old times catch up who was where. Joe bought Kani over to my house in Kahului when Kani got released from prison. He became a devoted Christian as did Stayton and both of them played on their churches Praise and Worship group. We knew Peyton was on Kauai as he moved from Oahu there in  the 70’s. Their nephew Preston Alaviado (Joes younger sisters son) lives here on Maui. Hes good firends with my son Kaua and a really neat young man. I was priviliged to Bless one of the houses that he rented a few years ago. At Joe’s funeral I saw Danny Collier, Pinky Paishon, and Peyton. Danny moved to Maui before me, raised his family here and is married to his 2nd wife living in Kihei. Last I heard from Pinkys older brother he is still in EB. As foa scrap stories, a bunch of us could but not me. Joe was a friend, that part of my past was given to the cross under the Blood of Iesus is forgiven as well as received Gods forgiveness. I know Joe felt the same way. We often spoke of those things. Joe received a heart transplant. He knew he was living on an extra lease from God and was extremely grateful. He truly lived his life ( last days) to the fullest with his family, wife and son and of course Jesus.

Thank you so much for sharing that story with us.  I really would like to learn more of Joe, Peyton etc.  I here so much stories about Peyton being a surf/beef out  kinda of person, while Joe loved his music, and Stayton was a church man, as well as a chicken fighter.   memories…

How about Tom Clements?  does that ring a bell?  local Haole boy who married one of the Siliado sisters and was a mild surfer back in EB also?

Tom is on this forum under the name "Flagpoles". He married a Siliado and they live on Kauai. His sister Jan was at Danny's paddle-out last week Saturday.

Cleigh-  Do  you  see  anywhere  that  i  said  anything  about  Joe  surfing?  If  i  did,  it  was  wrong.  I  said  Peyton  was  a  good  surfer.  Tommy.

Aloha everyone,

Sorry It took me a few days, but here is few low quality pics of Peyton Surfing Kauai south swell 2010.

So…My sister says she has nothing to do with me being described as a “mild” surfer.  That’s cool, but I know she’s behind everything said about me!  Glad she could make the paddle-out for Danny, sorry I missed the opportunity to see so many old Ewa Beach Rd friends and neighbors.  My wife is a Combis, raised within the Siliado household, 11 total kids.  I took my life into my own hands when I entered that house when we first started dating… braddah Stayton vouched for me as “the guy who surfs Flagpoles.”  Joe gave me the classic “if you evah” routine while shaking his fist at me.  Who knew then what God had planned for all of us? Amazing to say the least.  I felt really close to Stayton, knew him as “Spil.”  Lot of days and nights spent at his house at Lots, surfing, fishing, fixing boards, roasting pigs, drinking beer, tequila and other pollutants – and throwing horseshoes.  Joined the Air Force and was gone for about 5 years before getting stationed at Hickam, so back to spending time with him and his family.  Only by then, it was even better, as our families were getting right with the Lord.  I cried hard when he passed.  I think my wife and brother Peyton are closer now as three of the 11 have already passed on.  Gotta love on people now, no more second chances!

Aloha

Tom
