Paul! Dat was so… special. 2005 I visited Mel B. and Issac Tanaka on da big Island. Mel asked me if I would kokua to spread the rest of George ashes he still had that the mom gave to him. We did it outside Banyans left break next to the surfing Heiau. Hows dat huh! Spoke to Nauka yesterday, Hapu told me he just came out of the hospital. Too much heart medication screwed his kidneys. Hes fine and recovering well.

I had dinner with Isaac, Mel, Andy Toothman, their wives, and Fred Palmeira Friday night. We spent about 4 hours talking story and having a wonderful time. Isaac showed me around his property and all the tress and vegetables he’s growing.
Saturday I saw Mel for about an hour and he showed me where he makes his boards. Real professional setup. Then Sunday Andy and his wife were at the airport the same time I was and we had another half hour to chat. Great time, and it made up for all the hassles I went though while trying to get there, do my job and get home.

Glad you’re o.k., hope you’re happy. I remember you as one of the more polite and sincere people of the Ewa Beach 60’s era! Along with Timmy Gearbrandt,Tommy Phillips, Mark and Steve Gardner, Guy Kamaka, the Arhelgers and many other wonderful fellas from that time some 40 years ago! Trojan 62

Does anyone know whatever happened to Craig Watts? In his parents’ light blue VW stationwagon, Craig drove myself, my girlfriend Joette Barnes, Mitch Dickey, Hal Mount, Sue Hyde (sp?), and Andy Smith to the Led Zeppelin concert at the Civic Auditorium on May 13, 1969. Excellent show–I still remember it!! I don’t think there were assigned seats and the tickets we had were only $5 (I still have the ticket stub). Jimmy Page and John Bonham were fantastic. Anyway, Craig was a pretty good goofy foot surfer and a good guy, but I never saw him again after about 1970.
Troy (Trojan62), yeah, I remember going with you to the Kenpo class. Around that same time, I traded you a near new, red-tint lightning bolt board for your near new, dark green Raleigh ten speed bike. Great bike. I also remember heading down to Records Hawaii many times to pick out an album or two. Some great ones I remember buying there were Jeff Beck “Truth”, “Electric Flag”, Beatles “White Album”, “Crosby Stills and Nash”, “Electric Ladyland”, “Blue Cheer”, “Steppenwolf”, and many others. I associate those albums with a lot of things from back then, and Records Hawaii is one of them. I also remember hitting the Surfline shop on Piikoi at that same period in time. Chris Gardner was shaping and glassing there, and also in the shed in our back yard at 91-175 Ewa Beach Road. The cane spiderwebs in the shop were covered with foam from Chris shaping boards, and late at night the webs would look like really neat crystals hanging from the ceiling and in the corners of the shed. Great times.
Hello Tom and Kenny, So nice to see you guys up on the site. Was listening to one of your slack key albums the other day. Got a picture of you in the chair with your brother with those nicely polished fancy shoes. Heard you been touring the world and playing for many people that love your music. That’s great. Don’t let Tom fool you he’s still got the right stuff. Was so nice to say hello. Take care and God Bless the Families guys. Until the next perfect wave rolls in, naky.
