F#$%ed up a tint, coloured filler coat question.

Today i done a two colour tint and im unhappy with how the colours look, im presuming because i used 4oz cloth and it looks kind of blotchy…

or maybe the powdered tints…

I want to go over the lam in the same colours but opaque pigment rather than transparent tint.

i was thinking i could do this with sanding/filler resin sand smooth and then clear hot coat as per usual

My question is, Should i maybe do a thin coat on laps and sand smooth BEFORE i do the coloured coat??

or just colour coat-sand then sand then hot coat/gloss coat sand and polish.???

Also would it be better to squeedgee the colour on??

has anyone done many coloured filler coats???

sorry if its a dumb question but i just don’t want to eff it up worse than it is.

CHEERS!!

If you have lap lines tape off the line and do a colored baste coat with lam resin - then go back with a colored hotcoat and it should give you a nice solid color - no blotchy spaces.

You can then gloss and polish.

  • Put your baste coat on with a squeege but come back with a brush for the rails/ nose and tail. - Color your hotcoat and apply just like any other hotcoat.

You may add a slight bit of weight but it will look good and solid.

yeah that sounds like what i figured i would try, the hot coat colour was gonna be opaque though coz i got mud colour where the two meet and it looks terrible and i want it gone.

was even thinking about trying that shabby distressed look with sanded black over it all.
