[…‘hexalite’ may be a ‘similar’ idea , yes ? That was one of the reasons I thought I’d ask , to see what OTHERS have done …Roy ?? Have you done fabric and foam fins ? ]

Hey Chippers,

I grabbed this photo off of here a long time ago. I don’t remember who made it, but thought it was pretty cool.

I know this is an old thread - but I’m hoping lawless can share what type of fabric was used in this inlay?? Standard cotton? I like the idea but not sure exactly how it was done…

That looks like newspaper to me.

2005 Halcyon Custom Fin Aprox. 12 Inches Deep ~ 1 Inch Thick Lance Carson Standard

Check the above out on resources. It has a 13 layer fiberglass spine and is done with high density PVC foam.

It took some time. Bagman wanted it to be an inch thick for his 11 footer.

It came out 5 thousands under. Certainly close enough.

I has a double 6oz epoxy shell over the inlay.  It’s been run by several on their own board & everyone that rides it on their log comments on how smoooooooth it is and how well it facilitates turning.

Aloha, Rich

great stuff !

  thank you Rich !

thank you Shushka for resurrecting it .

I have done foam core [polyurethane] fins .

I have done fabric inlay fins.

I have yet to combine the two ,

so .....

...to be continued ....

side fins done like this , but with solid fibreglass bases ...

keels or big twinnys could be nice ...

I still have sone foam lying around , 'somewhere ' here !   :)

cheers for jogging my memory , guys ! [I forget my old threads , mostly ...too many to remember , hence the name change every once in a while ]

  cheers !
