I’ve seen a few of them. Squeezing a board to see how strong it is, stress fractures not to mention vents. If you’ve bothered to sand a stress facture back you’ll find there’s nothing underneath but uncracked fibreglass. No, stress fractures don’t leak water as I’ve had “stress fractures” for up to a year in previous boards. Didn’t make the slightest bit of difference to the board. No brown foam, nothing. As for vents, would you like a built in foot warmer while you’re at it? It would be about as useful. I have no idea who cooks up some of this crap and quite frankly I don’t care. If you don’t like stress fractures or are concerned about damaging your board/leaking water (i.e vents), don’t go surfing! Also I give it six months before Taj Burrows leaves Firewire. Feel free to leave a few fads of your own.

Howzabout:
1 - quads for starters…flava of the month at the moment…but better than thrusters??? (btw - I own a speed dialer setup and like it…but I’ve not compared the diff between how it’d ride as a thruster …didn’t install a rear fin plug…maybe someone’s done it?)
2 - non custom shortboards - I think that surftechs and the like are great for longboarding but …shortboarding…? small subtle differences here (btm contours, rail shape etc) lead to big performance differences…
3 - Superlight shortboards…what you want is the right - weight - imho too light = too fussy + not enought drive + more difficult to catch waves in offshore wind

Of course the blank could gas up which probably means that your using XPS. The simple solution to that one is don’t use XPS. Just adds up to vents being just another fad that some idiot cooked up
xps doesnt require venting. it outgasses in microscopic amounts as the surface of the foam deteriorates from denting
the gas is a blowing agent left in the foam during production
low density eps and hollow boards require vents because it is 90% to 100% air
air expands when it heats up or when air pressure is lower outside the board(such as in an aircraft hold)
the air and or water moves between the beads of eps easily.
when the air expands enough it can cause a delamination ,and is quite common.
i wonder which idiots on sways advocate the use of vents

Stress fractures are fads. Build a compsand and you’ll see that it would take a huge amount of effort to put some stress fractures on your compsand compared to your regular board.
