Been laminating with the stuff for 25 years. There’s a DVD. The stuff is so simple. You guys are complicating this.
Heat the resin only for 15 to 20 seconds if it’s below 55F.
Add hardener and mix thoroughly.
Pour all the resin on the board as soon as it’s mixed. This gives you work time.
Spread the resin over the entire board and let it soak in. Do not try to force epoxy into the glass.
Wet and tuck the laps.
Pull any excess off and fill any dry spots.
Clean your laps.
Some tricks:
If your doing dark colors, use 50% more resin.
Doing longboards, sailboards, SUP’s, etc, in warm temps you can laminate using muliple small batches.
Slow hardener is available for those who want more work time of are working in very hot climates.
That’s about it.
i dont think im complicating it at all
its very simple, and only takes 10 minutes more
and wastes no resin
with the cost of surfboard epoxys being quite high
if you lam it like a poly there would be 20 dollars of resin on the floor
over a year that would be thousands of dollars in a small factory
its a very simple method for beginners and eliminates any problems
hundreds of laminators use epoxy in a similar way
with brushes and roller
ive tried it just about every way in the book
and this is the least wasteful and clean system
you can almost do without gloves its so clean
there is many benefits for apply the resin with a brush first
lowest possible ratios with a hand layup
fills all small holes etc without airbubbles
is fast and easy
and the laps are clean with very little dripping or none at all
i used resin research and it works okay
but it is very thick and bubbles a lot
same goes for kinetics
i prefer 4 to 1 resins that are runnnier
and 1/3 the price
