…Sunday I raced in the cali.gravity championship races in west L.A…I raced stand-up skateboard and received the highest speed time(46 mph) out of all the other racers, including luge, gravity bike, blades, and stand-up.I had a 2-3 MPH lead on everyone.I’m still checking in on it ,but it is most likely the fastest MPH on record for that hill.Herb…it was a outstanding day for winning, even if I didn’t.
You Go Boy!
what size skateboard?
Herb Spitzer for president! (even though he wont teach me the ways of the force) http://www.harboursurfshop.com
…Sorry Sling,Did I miss something?Herb
what size skateboard? …I had 2 different boards with me at the races ,the one I used was a 14ply maple(10"wide x 1 meter long) deck, airbrushed, fiberglassed to a gloss and polish. My trucks are 215mm Independent Trucks, and 92A S.C. Speed Wheels(Bullets). The grip was done in length-wise 1" stripes that was made of poly-resin,and ground-up glass…I need to change a few things, and I’ll be able to teardown thru the turns next time in December.Herb
…Sorry Sling,Did I miss something?Herb Herb, that is totally insane!!! I remember from skating down the hill outside our house as a kid, that you get sh*t scary speed wobbles. What the hell happens at nearly 50 mph!!! Peaman
(I was talking about showing me your tricks in the shaping room…nevermind.) Where do you get the materials to make the deck? Is it hard to get the concaves you want? I thought you would need some kind of hydrolic press to bend 14 ply maple. I wish I knew what you know herb…U have it all figured out!

Herb, Well into my 30 something “adult” years, a few close friends and I chanced upon a long, very isolated, smooth and freshly paved, single lane mountain road. We proceeded to spray paint a series of timed speed traps, including complete road blocks on appropriate occasions. After downhill runs in cities, it was a dream come true. Our main course was steep, at least 1/2 mile long, including a 40+ mph blind corner near the mid-point (w/velocity still increasing), a high forest embankment to the right, and a 35 to 40 degree 300’ clearcut drop-off valley to the left. In all the time it remained available for our purposes, none of us ever got seriously hurt… no phones or other people, etc. and the nearest hospital was over 30 miles away… custom designed boards, trucks, wheels… of course we used helmets and some pads under our clothing, but no leathers. In truth, we were often terrified, especially negotiating the blind corner, but still loved every minute. I`ll never forget the rare split second, seemingly in less than the blink of an eye, that I had to decide whether or not to step off with a measure of control at 45 mph+ rather than loose it all, fly off the road and down over the chasm. Great memories. What a full-on freakin rush. Dale
Herb, that is totally insane!!! I remember from skating down the hill > outside our house as a kid, that you get sh*t scary speed wobbles. What > the hell happens at nearly 50 mph!!!>>> Peaman …@ 50mph all I can tell you is the rush is better than any drug you can take ,and the high lasts much longer,it’s cheap, and for the most part legal! …@ 60+mph is pretty much vanshing point on a skateboard. …With The equipment I have, speed woobles aren’t so bad,but on this particular course at the bottom of the hill was a parking lot that they deverted the racers off into, and had them(us) run thru a narrow ,tight, 3 turn “S” that required different gear than I had.It was very different than the way we raced in the 70s.I went with the intent to go as fast as I could go!And I accomplished the goal that I set out to complete.I failed to qualify, but killed EVERYONE on the MPH by a landslide.I was,how you say “the outlaw winner” of the event,by what others had told me there.Kind of my life story,I guess?Herb

herv how exactly did they stop you from making boards at your house? cant you still shape at your house and just glass somewhere else?

Maybe there’s someone local who you can hook up with that has some space to share. By the way, I wonder if you ever got the $$ I sent you for the superchargers? Hope alls well. Faster’s better on both surfboards and skateboards. Research and development continues, Mahalo, Rich
Herb, I have a garage you can use…I just want someone to give me a good start with some pointers. Let me know…
herv how exactly did they stop you from making boards at your house? cant > you still shape at your house and just glass somewhere else? …lOOKS like I need to find a lawyer, The AssO. where I live fined me for "continue to construct surfboards"When infact I havenot built any since the first notice in Sept.(actually haven’t built any since early August).I have only built 7 boards this year and 3 of them were glassed outprod., at a pro glass shop. The stupid thing is they put it in writing, and mailed it to me. …So not to tip the scales,I have decided to stop for now.Herb
