fcs bonzer fins...

any one out there put a set of the new fcs bonzer fins in yet? have a few sets on order but want to set the plugs. i have been told to use the rail plugs at a standard thruster angle? just wanted to double check before it set them…

I started using the FCS system on bonzers with X2 plugs a few boards ago.</ br>
I believe it’s a really nice option: glass on fins on a bonzer and polishing them is too much pain in the …</ br>
Plus bonzer side fins don’t take too much strength even on big turns, they are not twin fins.</ br>
So, they should not jump out.</ br>

To draw your marks you have to notice the back edge of the fins are a bit further back than any other FCS fins excepted twin sets for fishes (wich i don’t use because Lokbox is a way more efficient system on bigger area fins).</ br>
More or less you have to consider almost a 1.5cm difference.</ br>
You can see on that picture how far back the railing edge is.</ br>

</ br>

About plugs, you just have to use the standard X2 plugs.</ br>
I did not put the fusion ones because the plugs seems too large to keep clean side concaves…</ br>
X2 plugs get sanded easyly and give a good result.

thanks for the reply. board looks very nice. yah sanding and polishing the side fins is probably a big reason why bonzers never really took off… i think i’ll wait till my fins get here before i set the plugs!!! aloha

…hello,

are the plugs in H pattern to the deck?

or with only the hole for the plug is just ok?

thanks

My Bonzer has glass on fins that are different sizes, the front ones are appreciably smaller than the rear ones. It ws made for Derek Hynd many years ago but it still flies.

Has FCS duplicated that dual fin shape or morphed them into one size?

I wanted to get some but I was unsure if they were exactly as my board is now.

SF

Fins are different sizes.
Front are smaller and rear are bigger.
I compared the FCS set to a RFC glasson set: same template.
H pattern has to be done on any FCS plug…
That’s my biggest problem as you can see the shadow on the deck.
But fusions (wich you can’t see on the deck) hardly match with heavy concaves.

to answer my own question, since the fins came and i did a retro fit on a nice brewer… it seems you have to put the marks for the trailing edge about 3/8" further up then the marks for glassons to get the fins in the correct spot when using the fcs templets. then just set the plugs (use rail plugs of course) at the standard thurster angle…

A quick question:

with these fcs side fins, you don't have any possibility for adjustability (forward-aft), right?

i noticed in the photo above that the forward smaller fins aren't really overlapping, while the rear two overlap the center fin quite a bit.  i've been reading that these subtle overlaps/variations have significant effects on performance of Bonzers.  is that right?

I'm looking at making something similar, but with future bases and want to make sure i set the boxes correctly.  any thoughts on the best dimensions to set these from the tail and in on the rails (angles)?

thanks for any advice.
