FCS Fin Installation...

COuple questions, first is it necessary to add white pigment to the resin you use to set the plugs? Next i have two 4 oz patches over the fin spots should i go ahead and add another or is two enough? I have measurements for fin placement when i did Ofishl fins but will they be different for FCS fins? the rear of the two front fins should 12" from tail and 1 1/4" from the rail at the rear of the fin, correct? and the center fin the rear of it should be 3 1/4" from the rear? also the toe in on the side fins is 1/4" just wann amake sure this is the same for fcs thanks for the help! JJ

Unless I’m off my mark, the fin placement should be the same for both fins because the fin shapes are fundamentally the same. Also, when I installed my fcs fins I used the template that was posted on their site (the image size had to be adjusted). I printed it on acetate (transparency paper)and made my marks through the sheet onto the bottom of the board. It worked perfectly.

Thanks, Scott.

Apparently they took that handy graphic off the site! I got it a while ago. I should have checked before I posted my last message. Sorry. The best alternative would be to put a sample fin into two unused fin plugs and lock it in just was you would on the board. Then take all the crucial measurements, e.g. distance from the front of plug to the leading edge of the fin, the distance between plugs etc… You’ll have to account for the fact that the side fins are set outside the center of the plugs. To install the fin’s without the kit, you’ll have to use a holesaw to drill the holes and find a way to put in the “H-pillar” holes that they suggest. I detached the holesaw from the bit and used that. I’d post the measurements but my original pattern is on a computer that isn’t available.

JJ Fin placement is really a matter of preferance (at least i’m told) your general measurments are in line. I always start w/ center fin 4" from tail and up 10 " from that to set the mark for the rear cup of the two side fins approx. 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" from the rail. The advice I got was to experiment (as if we all have the time or waves to keep cutting fins and replacing them or resetting plugs) but in reality…if we don’t do this then how will we ever know what works best with our shapes!
