I just started using FCS system and after putting in my first set I went to sand them down. I used my normal 8" sander with 60 grit paper and sanded right through the glass on the bottom of the board.
My question is what is the best way to sand down the plugs without burning through around the plug? any help would be appreciated
go with the smaller sanding pad that surf source has i think it is either 4" or 6"
Sanding the plugs will be something you will have get to better at with time. One trick is to make sure your pad is as flat as possible to the board. Any time your go at an angle you put swirlies in the board and you have a tendency to burn through the cloth-josh
Getting any box down is a touchy job. Nothing to be ashamed of going through a bit. Just learn from it!
Most pros use a hard disk until the last possible instant, then switch to a hard or medium pad. Trust your tools and don't ''scrub'' on spots with the sander.
Your sander should have come with a hard thin black disk. Glue some 60 grit on to that. The problem with the foam disks (even the hard ones) is that the foam deforms around the plug or the cap of a Futures box and sands the bottom of the board at the same time it sands the protruding plug. The hard disk won’t do that. But be careful with it. You can lose control in a blink of the eye and sand into the foam. (I’m laughing as I write this thinking about how hard it was to learn this. Why, when I was your age, we didn’t have hard sanding disks. We had …).
