I was curious if any one out there had tried one of these? If so, how did it compare to o’fish’l or some of the more common leash plugs?
RadRob,
I’ve installed a few and so far so good. They fit pretty tight in the hole from a 1" Hole Saw and Forstner Bit. Not sure if this is the size hole that was intended for them. They also do not require as deep a hole as other plugs. No problem at all to glass over and probably less likely to leak on an EPS board as an after glass install.

Hi RadBob
Not a man of great experience (only shaped the one board so far!) but I used one of these.
As far as installation goes . . . Pretty easy. They use the same hole diameter as FCS fins. Stick it in before your final coat (either hot or gloss). I dug some foam out from under the glass just to allow some resin to get under there to allow it to be even harder for the thing to be pulled out.
I think the idea of the little lid on it is to keep resin etc. out until you’re ready to sand . . . So just sand away until all’s flush with the deck of the board.
I haven’t taken mine out in the surf yet, but a mate of mine who just used one for the first time went out on the weekend in reasnoble size surf and took a bit of beating. Incidently the first thnig he said to me when he came in was “The leash plug works!”

So its kind of sealed so you can glass over it, then sand it down??. If so ,what a great idea, saves taping up, then cutting off with a razor blade.
WHere did you get them from in oz??
There is a couple other Legrope plugs on the market. Australian fin co has a couple that you dont need to tape over either. They have a small amount of material that sits above the glass until you sand it. theres a couple pics of them on a test website im making for them… check the accesories page.

Hey Bf
Not sure about “glassing” over, but hot or gloss coat for sure.
I got mine from the local surf shop (Cutloose). $2.

So that lip in the pic sits above the glass, so resin doesnt get in??. I use fin solutions, ( looks like they’re site ) and they have the same lip, makes it very hard to stuff up, unless you pour way too much resin like i did on my 2+1!!. Worked out ok anyway. I love the fin solutions stuff, good product.
Cheers

Coil uses this leash plug for all our boards (except fishes that get a glass loop in the crack). We install them
in the vac-lam process, so we put enough fiber over the top that you can barely see the cup. Basically you
just see an opening to put your string in. Never had a failure and I doubt we ever will.
It’s also the shallowest glass-over cup available, which fits better in our thin tails.
Thanks for the info Mike.I didn’t realize it was more shallow than the other plugs out there. That can definitely come in handy on boards with a really thin tail.
