FCS / S-plug Installation Template

I have one of these templates for installing plugs:

Have been wondering why the notches for marking fin positions on the side fins are offset to the centre line of the plugs? Is this to accomodate for cant?

I normally line up the template so that the rear notch is where i want the back of my fin (ie 7 inches forward 1 1/4" in from rail for example) and the front notch toed in to where i want it. Is this the right way to be doing it? or is the offset meaning my fins are closer to the rail than i designed?

if i draw a line where i want my fin and line up the notches to that, the fin is going to be slightly closer to the rail than the line right?

Where you mark side fins should be were you want the edges to be, not the theoretical center of the fin. Think of a standard fin. You draw your fin lines as a guide for the flat side.

So Centr fin is center of plugs/fin tabs

Side fins is the stringer side edge of the fintabs.

It loses its theory a bit in side fins with an inside convex

ahh great, got it. that makes perfect sense.

so with a quad read with say 30/70 foil, i'd be best to line up beween the notch and centre of the boxes, so the point of the fin is on the line.
