FCS Vector- type fins

I read an article in Surfer about these new fins and it showed a diagram, a cutaway view of the fin looks like an airplane wing, concave on one side and rounded on the the other. So I took a regulat FCS fin and built up some Bondo Auto Putty, sanded it and had the exact replica for pennies. It works great! The speed out of turns is awsum, all my boards have them now and I’m makin a few up for Christmas presents too. Get a can of Bondo and make your own, ain’t hard at all!

Howzit Tubedog, Let me get this straight, You were looking at a set of Futures Fins that fit FCS. The Mystery continues I guess. Supposidly FCS is finishing up the promo and new catalog before releasing the new products and that’s why we won’t see their stuff til the end of Feb… But appearently the pros are getting the first taste. I know Barney at FCS was surprized to see the ad in the surf mag. I’m wondering if only the pros from Aust. have them since the co. is based in Aust. The home base co. in Aust. has a habit of doing things and not informing the other non Aust. based reps. The Hawaii reps had no idea about the Aust. guys selling those fin sets to China til it was a done deal, I know the Hawaii reps were not to happy about that move. Aloha, Kokua

Kokua- Yep. Sounds about right. It’ll be interesting to see if the Futures composite fin- which is hard and has been described to me by their Hawaii distributor as a sort of ceramic- will overpower the FCS plugs. The Futures fin tabs and the material looks strong, I’m not sure whether they will break off on impact as FCS plans for the rest of their line, or if they will rip out plugs. Futures has a suspension system in the works reportedly to strengthen their fin fixation based on the supposed increased stress these fins cause, but this could be hype. We’ll see. I have not ever had a plug rip out, but I surf shallow reefs with care, especially with FCS carbon fins.

It will be interesting to see how well thrusters ride with properly cambered side fins and symmetrical centre fins. The paradoxical situation for thrusters is that the cambered side fins can be designed to perform much better than the symmetrical centre fin - particularly with respect to stalling. So, it seems no matter how much the side fins are improved on a thruster, the board wiil be “limited” by the compromise centre fin, which needs to be made symmetrical. It would appear that twins and quads do not have this inherent “limitation”, as all these fins can be made cambered. The surboard design pendulum may be about to go for another swing. Thanks.

Good day, What do you boys need to know, regarding Futures and F.C.S.?

Good day, What do you boys need to know, regarding Futures and F.C.S.?

Howzit Future, Think we’ve straightened it out, but thanks any way. Aloha, Kokua

There is a alot of new new technology coming from us(Future/OceanAir). I will tell you that, almost every fin company is coming out with a Vector like fin. This is great , because these fins create such a load that most fin systems will need to design a correct load holding box . We at Futures, ask anyone who would like, any information regarding our designs, to inquiry at www.futuresfins.com. Don’t forget, we offer a the whole line at your local surf shop to try at no charge! Just ask! It won’t hurt. FuturesFins/OceanAir
