FCS2 Experiences?

Good Point!

Try this:

I just lost my fin, maybe the leash hit it or maybe i hit it on the sand bottom.  All i know is i have to spend more money to buy a new one and i have never had this happen with normal FCS fin systems.

To me, the Fusions are the ultimate design for fin boxes.  **Simplicity!!!  **Simplicity is the reason I say that.  The box itself has nothing going on inside with no rods, springs or pressure rollers to fail.  The box only requires a simple one piece jig to route out unlike Futures or some of the others.  I just see no reason to change.  I’ll be curious how the FCS2 boxes will perform when the board is 4 years old?  Will the pressure roller hold up, get hard or split?

Good point, but who rides boards that are four years old?

I just bought one last week that was 40+ and I plan on riding it too.  ;^}

I just had to replace all 5 boxes on a Custom from CA. Major brand and shaped by the brand’s namesake. The front boxes and one of the quad rears were loose after one surf. The first box I removed had been installed with no more than a teaspoon of resin only at the rear of the box. 95% of the hole and box had no resin. As the next two were the same I cut all of them out. They all had a small puddle of resin at the very rear of the box and hole. I sure hope this glass shop doesn’t do this on some of the pro’s boards. I know when I install the boxes (Fusion or FCS2) I pull the box and add some more resin and reinsert if I don’t get a complete “squish out”.

Hi Dave D -

I keep a supply of curved tip syringes on hand for various applications including the problem you describe. WEST epoxy system offers them at some hardware stores but they’re cheaper in bulk on eBay…

BTW I started this thread a while ago without being really informed.  I just wanted to see opinions.  Today, all of my boards except 1 are FCS2 and I’m loving it

Fusions are still well liked and sold to board builders .

I make fins for a couple of North Shore shapers using Fusions .

So far no complaints.  Don’t like the force needed to put the fins into the board.  Seems that repeated fin installation and removal might cause some problems, but time will tell.  Glassers informed  me that a 4 1/2" fin mark doesn’t work for the new jig.  Need to make marks at 5 1/4".
